VIPER has three primary facilities:
Virginia Motorsports Technology Park at VIR: This facility in Alton, VA adjacent to VIR is home to VIPER’s chassis / suspension and simulation expertise and houses the 8 post vehicle dynamics shake rig, shock development lab as well as our 6 DOF full motion driving simulator.
VIR North Paddock: With its chassis dynamometer, surface plate and prime location, VIPER’s North Paddock location is ideal for in-vehicle engine development and budget chassis development for race vehicles.
NASA Langley: VIPER has access to two wind tunnels at NASA Langley’s facility in Hampton, VA. The Full Scale Wind Tunnel is operated by Old Dominion University and presents a unique testing capability due to its large 30x60 test section. Particularly for race vehicles, a 5 belt rolling road balance at the 14x22 tunnel will soon be available for testing of full scale vehicles in which moving ground plane boundary layer control is essential for accurate aerodynamic data.
